The Mayor shall appoint a City Solicitor, subject to the confirmation of the City Council, who shall be the legal representative of the Mayor and City Council of Laurel. He or she shall attend all regular meetings of the City Council and such special meetings as he or she may be requested to attend, shall prepare all ordinances, and shall, in general, give such advice to the Mayor and City Council as may be requested by them. His or her compensation shall be determined by the City Council. The City Solicitor shall serve at the pleasure of the Mayor.

The City Solicitor is authorized by Resolution to accept service of legal process in any matter involving the City. Therefore all notices of intent to sue or lawsuits, witness summons and the like will be accepted by the City Solicitor at his office address below:
