  • The Budget and Personnel Services Department ensures that adequate controls exist in order to protect the City's funds and maintains records of all financial transactions.

  • It is the responsibility of the Clerk to the City Council to provide assistance to the City Council and to maintain and preserve all required legislation in accordance with State, County and City Codes. The Clerk's Office provides administrative and reporting coverage of all meetings of the Mayor and City Council and various Boards and Commissions.

    The Clerk serves as the Archivist of the City and is the City's Public Information Act Representative.

    The Department of Economic and Community Development maintains and oversees the built environment within the City of Laurel. The department is responsible for zoning compliance, subdivision and development review, historic preservation review, economic development, affordable housing, and implementation of the City’s Master Plan. These activities are intended to improve the life quality in the City. Department staff strive to provide these services in a timely and efficient manner while promoting high-quality development which is compliant with State of Maryland regulations and statutes.  

  • The Office of Emergency Management plans and prepares for emergencies, educates the public about preparedness, coordinates emergency response and recovery efforts and disseminates information during emergencies and disasters. 

  • The Department of the Fire Marshal and Permit Services (FMPS) is divided into two Divisions who are responsible for the management and enforcement of the City’s codes and ordinances as it relates to wide range of areas, to include building and property standards, fire and life safety standards, rental housing licenses and permitting services.

     

  • The Department of Information Technology provides systems, support, and training to assist the City in effective management, administration, and service operations.

  • The City Council is the legislative body of the City of Laurel, and considers and enacts resolutions, regulations, and ordinances for the protection of rights and privileges, peace, good government, and safety and health of all citizens.

  • The Mayor is the Chief Executive of the City, with all the powers necessary to secure the enforcement of all ordinances and resolutions passed by the City Council.

  • The Department of Parks and Recreation offers recreation programs and services throughout six facilities and 19 park sites encompassing over 222 acres of parkland. 

  • The Laurel Police Department is committed to providing the highest quality of law enforcement service to the City of Laurel citizens by aggressive Crime Prevention and vigorously pursuing and arresting criminals.

     

  • The Department of Public Works provides refuse and recycling collection, city infrastructure management and maintenance, snow and ice removal, and quick and effective responses to inclement weather damage.
