With the 4th of July approaching fast, we need to remind you that all fireworks are illegal in the City of Laurel and Prince George’s County.
Mayor Craig A. Moe says it’s important to remember that ALL consumer fireworks including sparklers and snappers are illegal.
City of Laurel Fire Marshal Stephen Allen, Sr. says citizens and visitors that illegally sell, possess or use any type of fireworks in the City will have them confiscated and be fined up to $250.
Leave the fireworks to the professionals! If you attend a fireworks event, please keep an eye on children and stay clear from where the fireworks are being setup and launched.
Inspectors from the Department of the Fire Marshal and Permit Services will be canvassing the City the weekend of the 4th of July, to ensure there are no illegal fireworks being used or sold. And the Laurel Police Department is already actively investigating complaints about fireworks being used in our neighborhoods.
Hand-held sparklers are the biggest illegal fireworks found, which burn at approximately 1200 degrees Fahrenheit, and can lead to permanent disfigurement and scarring.
If you see someone possessing, selling, using or if you find any unattended fireworks, please call the Laurel Police Department at 301-498-0092 and report it immediately for everyone’s safety.
