Mayor Craig A. Moe is pleased to announce that City of Laurel Council member Keith Sydnor has completed all the requirements to receive his Certificate from the Academy for Excellence in Local Governance from the University of Maryland.

“By taking this voluntary certificate program, which requires government officials to take 8 “core” classes and 6 “elective” classes, Council member Sydnor has shown his commitment to serving the citizens of Laurel and I am proud of the dedication Mr. Sydnor has shown by completing this program on his own time in the past 2 years,” said Mayor Moe.

Since 1998, the Academy for Excellence in Local Governance has been a collaborative effort between the University of Maryland, the Maryland Municipal League (MML) and the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo).

Together, these partners bring experienced officials, proven practitioners, and university faculty to Academy in order to:

  • Increase understanding of local government and how it functions.
  • Promote high ethical standards in public services.
  • Provide an informational base for more informed policy making.
  • Develop the capacity of local officials to govern effectively and recognize local officials for their educational efforts.

Mr. Sydnor will graduate on September 29, 2019, at the University of Maryland College Park’s Tyser Auditorium.

Please join us in sending Council member Sydnor hearty congratulations on his accomplishment!
