Five women-- Mary Wesley, Rose Mary Walker, Gladys V. Allen, Clara H Tester and Marjorie M. Hagan, originally started their careers with the City of Laurel as crossing guards.

They were sworn in as Police Officers in 1953—becoming the first female police officers for the City of Laurel.

And now, 64 years later, they are being honored with a plaque at the Laurel Police Department to thank them for their service. The Officers’ families from across the country are coming to Laurel for this historic day.
