Notes on LAC non-quorum Meeting Nov 9 2022
Attendees – Bill, Cesar, Kayleigh, Bharati, Alonté, Anjali, Melissa
Bill – Laurel Multiservice Center for people experiencing homelessness (run by city)
LAC will review and decide which mural design. Possibly murals inside.
Cesar – Quill Lot concerts. Cesar answered LAC Event Committee’s Question: no decent stage at Quill Lot or other facilities in Laurel (?McCullough Field) – maybe use bank or florist; Laurel Towne Center does have stage + sound system . Bill: DPW has portable plywood stages – 4 together can make a stage for small ensemble. DPR has 2 hay wagons for 1-2 performers.
Time frame – spring or summer?
Traffic Boxes – Kayleigh identified 4 state-owned highway boxes; State of Md. gave her a prelim ok on use of these boxes for art wraps (to qualify, box must be in zone <35-40 ? mph + no road construction planned) Next step = get cost estimate (how many can we afford to wrap?)
Education outreach – Bill and Melissa reported on birdhouse event (Gude Lake), which featured new birdhouses including one by Pallotti art students – sponsored by LAC.
Melissa reached out to Laurel HS visual art teachers about exhibiting student art – waiting to hear back. She plans in next few days to hit up Laurel HS music dept, Pallotti art and music, local ESs.
Social media – Alonté reported he’s still not on city Instagram for LAC. Bill advised talking with James James Cornwell-Shiel, City IT, and then let Bill know if any further hitches gett
