  1. Call to Order

The meeting was called to order by Chairman James Kole at 6:05 PM

  1. Roll Call

Members present: James Kole, Janice Blitz, Cynthia Wood, Tawana Spencer. Staff present: Bill Bailey, Carreen Koubek, Laura Christoplos.

  1. Approval of Minutes from February 22, 2022, meeting

On a motion by Ms. Wood, seconded by Mr. Kole, the minutes from the February 22, 2022, meeting were unanimously approved.

  1. Report and discussion of progress in finding new members

Janice Blitz is the newest member. She was appointed at the last Mayor and City Council meeting. Ms. Blitz said she will ask her daughter, who is an Environmental Science major, if she is interested in being on the Committee. She would fill the seventh and final open seat.

  1. Review of Years 2 and 3 projects and initiatives of the Three-Year Action Plan.

On a motion by Ms. Wood, seconded by Ms. Blitz, Years 2 and 3 projects and initiatives were unanimously approved as amended. Staff will reach out to Rob Love to ask how the Committee can promote local food and the new Main Street Farmer’s Market

  1. Discussion and decision on which of the Year 1 action items to focus on once progress has been made on item 6 (Actively seek new members for the Environmental Affairs Committee)

Carreen is working on the Green Living page and will link the EAC page to it.

Ms. Clark had expressed interest in working on the web page, but was unable to attend.

The issue of pet waste was discussed. Staff will email the pertinent ordinance to Committee members, and research how other jurisdictions handle this problem.

  1. Report from Environmental Programs Manager

Due to the demands of the One and Done rollout, Ms. Blair was unable to attend.

  1. Public Hearing

There were no members of the public present. Mr. Kole would like the Committee to have more of a public presence so that members of the public will attend. This will encourage the public to get involved with projects by the Committee, and help fill openings in the sub-committees.

  1. New Business

Create a subcommittee for webpage redesign. This was tabled until Ms. Clark can attend.

Laurel Elementary School is hosting an all-day Arts Integration Celebration on Friday, May 27th. They are hoping for more environmental literacy integration (Mr. Kole is unable to attend). Mr. Kole asked for volunteers. Ms. Blitz was interested. Mr. Kole will send her the information.

  1.  Next Meeting – May 24, 2022

The next meeting will be at the Lakehouse on May 24, 2022, at 6 PM. The Vice Chair of the Committee will be elected at the next meeting.

  1. Adjournment

At 6:40PM, Ms. Wood made the motion to adjourn, and Ms. Blitz seconded it.
