TWELFTH MEETING OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MONDAY, MAY 23, 2022, 6: 00 P. M.

Reports of the Mayor and City Council Councilmember Keith Sydnor said that May is Mental Health Awareness Month, as a community and society don' t focus enough attention. He thanked the Laurel Police Department for their efforts assisting one of his neighbors having some issues with her daughter experiencing some mental health issues.
Councilmember DeWalt attended the Armed Forces Day at the American Legion on Sunday, May 22, 2022. There is an issue with someone stealing some of the fish from the planters created by the Laurel Arts Counsel. Historic District Commission voted no to remove the black oak tree on Post Office Avenue.
Councilmember Kole attended Lakefest on Saturday, May 14, 2022. On May 17 he was a guest judge at the CMIT Academy. First Pride Celebration Committee Meeting was held on May 19, 2022, first Pride Committee Planning Meeting was held with a lot being accomplished.
Councilmember Mitchell on May 8 attended Next Door Mad Cow for Mother' s Day Bruch, Chef Nevell did an excellent job. May 14 attended Lakefest and was pleased to see the new additions for the kids. Town Hall with Glen Ivey on May 18. On May 25, 2022, attended City Hall in the Park at Discovery Park, looking forward to the improvements being made there. Working on an Expungement Clinic on Saturday, June 17, 2022. More information to come.
Mayor Moe condolences to the family and friends of Warren Baker a long- time resident of the city. Also extended his condolences to the family and friends of Bobby Holmes. Prince George' s County Municipal Association Board of Directors and the General Membership Meeting on Thursday, May 19, 2022. Laurel Volunteer Fire Department Life -member Dinner held on Saturday, May 14, 2022. Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Caden Boone for the work he did at Riverfront Park. Preparing for Memorial Day Twelfth Meeting of the Mayor and City CouncilMonday, May 23, 2022, Ceremony on Sunday, May 29, 2022, 11: 00 a. m. at Ivy Hill Cemetery. May 30 City Offices will be closed in honor of the Memorial Day Holiday. Proclamation 2022 — 16 June 2022 as LGBTQ+ Pride Month in the City of Laurel Proclamation 2022 — 17 National Gun Awareness Day on June 13 in the City of Laurel Proclamation 2022 — 18 Juneteenth Celebration in the City of Laurel on June 19, 2022 Proclamation 2022 — 19 National HIV Testing Awareness on June 27, 2022.
Mayor Moe and the Laurel City Council recognized Mary Blankenship on her retirement from the City of Laurel. Mayoral Appointments Ron Peterson, Chair, Juneteenth Celebration Planning Committee Sandra Choute, Vice Chair, Juneteenth Celebration Planning Committee Michelle Keating, Pride Day Celebration Planning Committee. On motion by Councilmember Sydnor, seconded by Councilmember Kole, the mayoral appointments were confirmed on a unanimous roll call vote.
President Smith opened the General Public Hearing at 6: 32 p. m. Judge Carol Coderra addressed the Mayor and City Council announcing that she is running for re- election as a Circuit Court Judge in Prince George' s County. President Smith closed the General Public Hearing at 6: 37 p. m.
President Smith read the title of Ordinance No. 1998, an ordinance adopting the General Operating Budget and Capital Improvement Program of the Mayor and City Council of Laurel, Maryland, for the Fiscal Year July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2023, and to levy property taxes; and to authorize the collection of such taxes, into the record for the second reading. S. Michele Saylor discussed in budget work session balanced budget of $38, 715, 938 General Operating Budget, the reauthorization of the Capital Improvement Program at 14, 183,286, with new authorization funding at $ 11, 942, 563 dollars. Tax rate at 71 cents, personal property at $ 1. 69 per hundred and transit overlay at 3 cents in commercial zones. On motion by Councilmember Sydnor, seconded by Councilmember Kole, ORDINANCE NO. 1998, AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING THE GENERAL OPERATING BUDGET AND CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF LAUREL, MARYLAND, FOR THE FISCAL YEAR JULY 1, 2022, THROUGH JUNE 30, 2023, AND TO LEVY PROPERTY TAXES; AND TO AUTHORIZE THE COLLECTION OF SUCH TAXES, was adopted on a unanimous roll call vote. Mayor Moe concurred with this action.
There being no further business to come before the Mayor and City Council the meeting was adjourned at 6: 44 p. m.
