On motion by Councilmember Sydnor, seconded by Councilmember Kole, the minutes listed above were approved on a unanimous roll call vote.

Report of the Mayor and City Council

Councilmember DeWalt was happy to be present at Elizabeth House on January 11, 2022, to honor two Laurel volunteers from Laurel who had been volunteering for 25 years. He attended the Virtual Dr. Martin Luther King Program on January 17, 2022, organized by Christine Johnson who did an outstanding job. January 20, 2022, Public Safety and Transportation CAC discussion on the speeding in the city. January 23, Laurel Boys and Girls Club Pop up, sponsored by Councilmember Mitchel. The event was co-sponsored by Tory McAlister who partners with Whole Foods providing healthy food to the community as well as Community Care that provides helps with mental health issues. Also testing, giving vaccine and booster. Governor Hogan opened 10 testing sites across Maryland.

Councilmember Sydnor sponsored a Voter Registration Drive on January 15, 2022, in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Holiday during which he discussed the importance of the upcoming mid-term elections. He thanked Director Audrey Barnes and her staff on the wonderful Virtual Program in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Councilmember James Kole attended the Historic District Commission on January 18, 2022. He thanked all City employees working the winter events, saying the city does a wonderful job.

Councilmember Martin Mitchell was glad to participate in the Martin Luther King Virtual Program and the clinic/food distribution this weekend at Laurel Boys and Girls Club.

Councilmember Smith thanked the city employees for keeping the streets clean and safe to travel, much appreciated by the residents.

Mayor Moe condolences to Finley DeCarmo family, long time member of the Laurel Volunteer Rescue Squad. Condolences fire fighters killed in the line of duty today, one still in critical condition, wished him a speedy recovery. Sad day in the City of Baltimore and for all families affected. Reminded everyone that lives on a snow emergency route to not park on the street when a snow emergency is in effect. City has asked the 21st Delegation for funding for the Multi-Services Center and the Laurel Damn Ruins. In 2009 the city received state funding for the restoration of the Damn Ruins. Wreaths Across American cleanup on Saturday, January 22. Took part in the MLK Day of Service, thanked everyone involved in planning. Friday, January 14, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. a wreath was placed at the Peace Pole in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King. Covid 19, Laurel Hospital continues to test. Mayor and City Council provided funding for testing at the Laurel Minute Clinic. Received calls asking about the plastic bag ban, residents happy to see the stores using paper bags. Thanked Michele Blair for her efforts on this new legislation. Anthony and Dorothy D'Antoni were recognized for their 26 years of volunteer service at Elizabeth House. Happy 68th Anniversary on January 16 to Mr. and Mrs. Moe. Polls up around town, traffic study, traffic counts in the targeted area for the traffic/parking survey.

On motion by Councilmember Sydnor, seconded by Councilmember DeWalt, the appointments listed above were approved on a unanimous roll call vote.

President Smith opened the General Public Hearing at 6:22 p.m. and closed it with no one present wishing to speak.

President Second public hearing with possible action on Resolution No. 1-22, a resolution of the Mayor and City Council of Laurel, Maryland to establish a City of Laurel Advisory Committee relating to the redistricting of City Ward Boundaries, into the record for the second reading. The public hearing was opened at 6:23 p.m. and closed.

On motion by Councilmember DeWalt, seconded by Councilmember Sydnor, RESOLUTION NO. 1-22, A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF LAUREL, MARYLAND TO ESTABLISH A CITY OF LAUREL ADVISORY COMMITTEE RELATING TO THE REDISTRICTING OF CITY WARD BOUNDARIES, was adopted on a unanimous roll call vote. Mayor Moe concurred with this action.
