Ordinance No. 1934, an ordinance to amend the General Operating Budget and Capital Improvement Program of the Mayor and City Council of Laurel, Maryland, for the Fiscal Year July 1, 2018, through June 30, 2019.
S. Michele Saylor, Director of Budget and Personnel Services presented Ordinance No. 1934, saying the Operating Budget was adopted through an ordinance, therefore, transfers that cross departments must be passed by ordinance. Ms. Saylor explained that this is the first amendment to the 2019 Operating Budget, which reallocates insurance proceeds; the financial activities of the 4th of July Committee; savings in Election Budget; staffing for Laurel TV coverage; allocation and official placement of three federal grants; savings from the RJDCC floor refinishing project to be reallocated to the Armory Community Center in the Capital Improvements Program. Councilmembers were in agreement to move forward with introduction and first public hearing at the Mayor and City Council Meeting on Monday, December 10, 2018, 7:00 p.m. Mayor Moe requested suspending the Council Rules to allow adoption of this ordinance since the December 10 meeting is the last one for the year.
Resolution No. 6-18, a resolution to establish the City of Laurel 150th Anniversary Committee and to provide for its membership and responsibilities. Mayor Moe had the opportunity to meet with a few citizens to brain-storm ideas for the 150th Anniversary Celebration. The committee members will serve without compensation. He has been looking at the files from previous events and is hoping to have a similar celebration. Could be an eight month to year long celebration. No chairs or vice-chairs have been selected at this time. As the upcoming budget is prepared, the City will have to include some funding for the celebration. The celebration take place in 2020. Councilmembers were in agreement to move forward with the legislation for first public hearing at the Mayor and City Council Meeting on Monday, December 10, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. Mayor Moe requested suspension of the Council Rules to allow adoption of this resolution at the December 10, 2018, meeting since it's the last meeting of the year.
There being no further business to come before the Mayor and City Council the meeting was adjourned at 7:22 p.m.
